Is Being Darker a Curse?

Is being dark skin a curse? That’s a matter of perception in my book. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I feel that it’s self-developed, but it’s hard growing up dark skin in America. It seems that dark skin doesn’t fit in anywhere.
Personally, I never had the chance to feel pretty or confident, being constantly ridiculed and teased even by adults.

My humiliation appeared entertaining and humorous to others. This is where I grew a complex about my appearance, amongst other issues. Experiencing this caused me to become self-conscious and I developed anxiety. I was made to feel like I didn’t belong anywhere not even in my own family. Imagine that, experiencing racism amongst other races and inside your own race, it doesn’t stop there. I felt it first from my family. It seems to fall on deaf

Society still struggles with concept of us all
realizing the beauty in dark skin but it’s important that we all learn,
especially ones within the colored community, learn the history and
beauty of beautiful, heavily melanated skin.

ears though, extremely stentorian. You feel that you’re the last to be considered when it comes to attraction. You constantly affirm yourself that you’re beautiful in hopes that others will believe it too. When I was younger my first thoughts of myself before the teasing was that there was simply nothing wrong with me until I allowed others to make me believe different. It’s a constant battle because the people that are doing it don’t even realize it sometimes.

Being dark skin is not a curse but there is a generational curse of the world viewing dark skin as being the least desired and last choice. The struggle that the deeply melanated collective go through because of the way they were born. Instead of being seen as beautiful, we’ve been made to believe that we aren’t and the only way we can achieve true beauty is if we could make ourselves lighter.
Being dark skin is a gift, one of the greatest gifts of this earth. Although we haven’t had it easy for generations due to brainwashing
